Palanga Children’s Rehabilitation Sanatorium “Palangos Gintaras” is located in the southern part of Palanga Town, at the astonishing Baltic seaside.

In 1990, the rehabilitation sanatorium was an unknown recently-established Children’s Health Centre, accepting for treatment several hundred young patients per year. Currently, “Palangos Gintaras” is a widely known children’s rehabilitation sanatorium administering successful medical treatment, having medical and material base, with the staff of over 200 people. The sanatorium employs physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors, paediatricians, children’s psychiatrists, reflex therapists, kinezitherapists, ergo-therapists, social workers, special pedagogy specialist-speech therapy specialists, psychologists, dentist, children’s nurses, and other staff. If needed, patients are consulted by otorhinolaryngologists, surgeon, and other specialists. Up to 4,000 young patients are treated in the sanatorium per year.

The Sanatorium consists of an integral complex of buildings interconnected by heated corridors. Patients are accommodated in double rooms with all facilities. There are rest rooms with TV, various table games. School-age children attend a school near the Sanatorium.

Children eat in the renovated canteen, meals are prepared right here in the sanatorium kitchen. The food production premises are equipped with the latest equipment, so the food is always fresh, warm and delicious. In the daily diet we offer a lot of vegetables, since it is especially relevant for the growing organism of the child. Children are fed according to the menu compiled by the sanatorium nutritionist. If a child has exceptional food intolerance problems, the food can be produced individually for them.

Patients’ leisure time is organized by professional children’s leisure specialists. All calendar holidays are celebrated, various events, concerts and quizzes are organized. The sanatorium outdoors has a children’s playground, outdoor chess, fitness equipment and a basketball court. The sanatorium has a children’s playroom with an accompanying person. Leisure activities are carried out in various artistic and creative activities.

There are 300 accredited sites in the sanatorium. The sanatorium conducts medical rehabilitation and sanatorium treatment activities of level II under the issued license:

Children with disabilities, speech disorders, after severe trauma, surgeries etc. are provided with the following services:

  • Speech therapist (counselling, individual seminars);
  • Traumatologist-orthopaedist (counselling, orthopaedic customisation and free supply).

In our institution medical rehabilitation and sanatorium treatment is carried out by a team of professionals. There is a space designed for children with disabilities: entrances have ramps for wheelchair patients, wards are equipped with wider doors, WC and showers are adapted for patient with severe disabilities. Physician and nursing services are provided around the clock.

The sanatorium treats children from 1 to 18 years old. Patients from 1 to 8 years old as well as older patients with disabilities and relevant documents from the Local Health Insurance Fund are treated together with their accompanying persons/carers. Children of 8 to 18 years old in the sanatorium are treated alone. Children’s medical rehabilitation and sanatorium treatment, following the procedures prescribed by the Ministry of Health, can be repeated in the same calendar year if the patient is disabled or with a progressive disease.

Natural resources — sunbathes, iodine-laden air and fresh scents of the pine-woods, sea, sandy beaches, beneficial combination of positive and negative ions, treatment administered in the rehabilitation sanatorium tone, harden the body, and raise body’s with resistance to illness, normalise child’s psychophysical processes, metabolism, help to restore child’s lost strength, prevent disability, or reduce its possibility. Children disability and their parents or family members accompanying them will find our sanatorium a perfect place for medical treatment, meeting friends of the same fate, for adaptation, and starting reintegration of a young patient with disability into society.

As early as 1830, the press about people coming to Palanga for medical treatment from Vilnius Region, Poland, Belarus and other places. From old days, Palanga is famous for its magnificent park, Count Tiškevičius Palace, where in 1963 was established the Amber Museum.
